Magic Sparks is an arts infused preschool program
for 3, 4 and 5 year old children
where learning can happen at any moment.
Children can come 3 or 4 mornings per week.
The student/teacher ratio of 12 to 2 highly qualified early childhood teachers
and the creative, hands-on approach to learning makes
this the creative alternative for preschool.
Visiting artists from Creative Spark's faculty add dance,
musical drama, Spanish, storytelling and clay to the curricula.

Learning Extensions
offers our oldest preschoolers opportunities to explore scientific, mathematical
and early reading concepts in an arts infused environment.
Learning Extensions is designed to meet the needs of children who will
be in kindergarten the following year or who attend half day programs.
Noon to 2 PM for two, three, four or five days a week.

Awaken and develop your child’s inborn joy and talent for making music while enjoying this special time together.
Early childhood—a time of rapid growth and brain development—is the optimal time to start this musical journey.  Creative Spark is proud to offer these 30 minute parent/child classes developed by music professionals
and used all over the world with great results.
Certified teacher, Natalie Hudson BFA Music, will lead these joyful classes in our wonderful toddler music room.  Tuition is $135 plus $35 for materials (including a CD) for the 15-week series of classes.
Class sizes are limited to 8 children to insure quality.

Music for Young Children
Designed for parents who want to introduce piano to their young children, MYC provides a economical,
comprehensive music program that integrates keyboard, singing, ear training, sight reading, rhythm, music theory and music composition. Children between the ages of 3 and 9, accompanied by their parents, benefit by acquiring solid music education in a fun group-based environment that enhances parent/child involvement.
The MYC program combines early childhood education principles with music theory within a rigorous curriculum in a fun atmosphere of music making.
Creative Spark highly recommends this program from beginning musicians.
Tuition is four payments of $180 plus a supply charge of $130 for the 36 week course.
Siblings can share most supplies.

Private Musical Instruction in a Variety of Instruments
Creative Spark’s eminent faculty offers private, weekly lessons at times to suit your schedule.
Instruments taught include piano, acoustic and electric guitar, bass, voice, sax and violin.
Children and adults, of any experience level, will learn musical theory
and to read and play music in a variety of styles.
We emphasize a positive environment with encouragement to develop your creativity.

Group Voice Lessons
Learn basic vocal warm-ups and exercises to help develop young singing voices and musical ears.
Each student will learn, memorize and perform at least one solo song,
which is a great preparation for upcoming auditions.

Broadway Kids
A beginning vocal class under the direction of Christina Schaer Yap.
Students develop their voices and ear while learning some of Broadway’s best tunes.

Broadway Performing Troupe
Under the direction of Christina Schaer Yap students develop their voices and learn choreography.
Participants in this program have won scholarships to New York City and colleges and received acclaim
from many audience members for their polished, professional performances. 
This two-semester class
for singers ages 9 and up who have vocal training and/or who
are taking private lessons and are committed to performing,
can join this group which performs several times a year.
In addition to performances,
The class will meet on Mondays from 5:30 to 7:00 PM
for 30 weeks beginning September 8
Tuition is four payments of $120, plus minimal costume fees

Childbloom Guitar®
is a unique and exciting way to introduce guitar and music to kids.
The curriculum is comprised of music arranged in parts; the student not only learns solo-playing skills,
but ensemble skills as well. This allows the instructor to successfully teach in
small groups of up to four students, while accommodating the young child’s attention span
and the adolescent’s expanding social horizon.
Students will be grouped by age and parents will accompany their children to each half hour weekly lesson.

Community Drumming  for Adults
Work off the stress of the week as you play hand drums
(provided, or bring your own Djembe or Ashiko)
with Bob Small, master drummer.
On  the first Friday of each month for 4 months

Pay $40 for all four in advance or $15 per week at the door.

CULTURAL AWARENESS GRANTS FOR TEACHERS
Through support of the S.C. Arts Commission and the Southern Arts Federation, Creative Spark provides
subsidies for teachers to bring their classes to attend performances at Creative Spark.
 Free tickets are also available to schools unable to pay.
These professional performances bring the best of the world’s cultures to your children
to enhance their understanding of geography, social studies, heritage and the Arts.
Many of the performances come with study guides.
Interested teachers and parents can request these tickets by calling Creative Spark’s director.
The S.C. Arts Commission and the Southern Arts Federation receive
support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

ART FOR CHILDREN/YOUTH

Paint a Rainbow:
Age appropriate music, drama and movement for ages 3 to 5 year olds taught by members of
our preschool faculty and visiting artists.  A “greatest hits” of experiences from Creative Spark’s
many years of  preschool arts and dance instruction.

Watercolor Painting
Beautiful results and expressive materials make this class with Lori Penland a wonderful creative outlet.

Mini-Michelangelo’s
Drawing inspiration from artists of many cultures, children will create their own art in the
style of the masters. A wide variety of materials will be introduced and the
children will be encouraged to develop both
self-expression and technical skills as they paint, draw, assemble and design
several of their own masterpieces.
Instructed by Scott Debus, an inspiring artist of great imagination.

Cartoons and Comic Books
Invent characters, animate them and bring them to life.

Sparks on Stage Theatre Company

Mudmuffins
One of our most popular classes.  Course includes coil, slab and pinch clay methods
with focus on both decorative and functional designs of hand building clay.
Many children take this class several times so each session features new projects.
The last class is always a party with treats eaten in the clay creations.

Kids Hand-building and at the Wheel
A class for children ages ten and up that have had some clay experience.

Sparks on Stage Theatre Company

True Stories:
Self-discovery Journal Writing Workshop for Teen Girls
An introspective, creative writing course for mature girls interested in exploring and communicating who
they are and who they want to become through guided journaling. Girls will gain greater self-awareness and
self-respect, creative writing skills, spoken word experience, writing/publishing resources,
insight into female authors and gender- relevant literature, appreciation for the connection between art and writing,
and an overall understanding of how to tell their own stories!
Class includes the creation of a beautiful collage journal and participation at Creative Café on November 24.

Modern Dance
Jocelyn Nugent has been with Anonymity Dance Company as a performer, choreographer and
assistant director since 1988.  She has danced with renowned companies in California after
completing her BFA in Modern Dance and Ballet. She brings her broad background to a welcoming
intermediate modern class for adults aimed at developing creative minds
and bodies using interesting music and movement ideas.
This class is suitable for experienced adult dancers of any age.

The room is spacious, the music is great and the atmosphere is friendly,
even if you’ve never done this before or if you come with or without
a partner to enjoy the friendly atmosphere and great music.

Girl Scouts & Boy Scouts
Your troop can earn badges by participating in a educational clay outing at Creative Spark clay studio.
The troop will learn about the different types of clay, glazes, and firing.
They will work with slab clay to form fun functional works of art.

Groups are limited to 15.

Sponsorships and Donations Consider a tax deducible donation to support your community’s art center.  You may choose to underwrite the cost of school performances, invest in capital improvements, or donate to the general fund.  Perhaps you’d like to honor a creative person in your life by making a donation in his or her name. Creative Spark’s commitment to enriching the community with excellent art education and events is dependent on your support.  We are also grateful for volunteers especially for building maintenance, help at performances and special events.
