Ages Newborns-5 Years Old

Magic Sparks Preschool is a multi-age, arts infused preschool program for children ages 3-5. At Magic Sparks, we believe that learning can happen at any moment! Our child-centered approach engages children in language, literature, and mathematical concepts through a variety of multi-sensory experiences. Our curriculum includes literature, free play, art, journal writing, small and large group work, cooking, construction, science, math, computer opportunities and lots of interaction with teachers.  The program features visiting artists from a wide range of professional artists who teach music, movement, visual art, clay, drama, and Spanish.  Registration materials are online and early application is encouraged for this popular program.   Complete information is at www.creativespark.org or the Magic Spark Preschool website, www.learningextensions.net.

Music Together  This mixed-ages program for children ages newborn-5yrs allows for siblings, parents, and caregivers to participate in class together. This semester families will be working on the fabulous "Bells" song collection, singing, playing, dancing and chanting to Music Together favorites and classic songs. To enhance your learning experience at home, each family will receive: 2 CDs of music from class, and illustrated songbook, DVD & parent guide with research that went into developing the program, and a quarterly family e-newsletter with up-to-date research and news.

Explore Arts!  Children ages 3 to 5 will explore a variety of materials with instructor, Julie Weinberger.  Paint, collage, traditional and non-traditional techniques will be used to create one-of-a-kind art pieces in this fun introduction of art for young children.  Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:30pm for 6 weeks beginning Jan 10th, Feb 28th & April 17th for $90 plus $10 supplies.

 Parent / Child Clay Children ages 4 & up and an accompanying adult will enjoy doing projects together including functional bowls as well as keepsake s that will be treasured forever!  Michaela Kuhn, instructor. Tuesdays from 4 to 5pm for 8 weeks beginning Jan 17th and March 13th for $140 per pair plus $50 supplies. Additional siblings are an additional $75 including supplies.  This class is held at our Clay Cottage at 1123 Chuck Dawley Blvd. 

Little Kids Hip Hop Students ages 4 to 6 will have fun in this clean, age appropriate, jazzy hip hop class led by Myers Varn.  Session will end with a small performance for parents.  Wednesdays from 4 to 4:45pm for 8 weeks beginning Jan 18th and March 21st for $90. 

Fun with French  Children ages 5 & up will learn French through play, songs, stories, theatre, crafts and art. This natural approach allows children to use their creativity and imagination to their full potential. The last class will be a show for families!  Wednesdays from 4 to 5pm for 8 weeks beginning Jan 18th and March 28th for $120 plus $10 supplies.

Ages 5-12 Years Olds

Intro to Musical Theatre This popular class is for children ages 6 to 12 and is instructed by SPROUTS Childrens Theatre’s directors and performers. Primarily about acting, singing and movement, the teachers select appropriate group numbers from several libraries of musicals for students to perform in a showcase for friends and family.  Mondays from 4 to 5pm for 15 weeks beginning Jan 23rd.for $240 plus $10 supplies.

Musical Theatre: Master Class  This class is designed for the more experienced student. This class will be led by the professional SPROUTS Childrens Theatre’s directors and performers.  An audition is required for new students and the skills and experience of the students will be factors in what members of the class will work on as a group or in solos, duets & trios. The class will conclude with a musical showcase for friends and family.  Mondays from 5 to 6pm for 15 weeks beginning Jan 30th for $240 plus $10 supplies. Auditions for NEW students will be held Monday, Jan 9th and reservations are required.

Musical Theatre: Intensive  This class is designed for the older, experienced students.  This class will be led by the professional Sprouts Childrens Theatre’s Directors and performers.  An audition is required for new students and the skills and experience of the students will be factors in what the class will work on as a group.  The class will conclude with a musical showcase for friends and family.  Mondays from 6 to 7pm for 15 weeks beginning Jan 30th for $240 plus $10 supplies. Auditions for NEW students will be held Monday, Jan 9th and reservations are required. Enrollment in this class is limited.

Movement for Musical Theatre  Taught by Sprouts Childrens Theatre Artist, Krissy McKown, this stage class is an important addition to our Theatre curriculum.  Students ages 6 to 12 interested in performing onstage must learn a variety of movement styles . . . from “selling” a solo, to being part of production number.  The class will conclude with a musical showcase for friends and family.  All skill levels are encouraged to enroll.  Thursdays from 4 to 5pm for 8 weeks beginning Feb 9th and March 29th for $120.

Dramatize!  Designed for a variety of experience levels, students ages 8 & up will learn the essentials of acting through scene studies, improv and design.  Amy Brownewell, Instructor, has years of experience in some of Los Angeles’ finest theatres.  Tuesdays from 4:15 to 5:15pm for 8 weeks beginning Jan 17th and March 20th for $120.

Mini-Michelangelo’s Inspiration from great masters will offer students ages 6 to 8 the opportunity to create with a variety of materials including paint, pastels, drawing and sculpture. Artist Scott Debus, instructor. Mondays from 4 to 5pm for 8 weeks starting Jan 23rd and March 26th for $120 plus $20 supplies.

Cartoons & Comic Books Artist Scott Debus will instruct ages 8 & up in this popular class on how to invent characters, animate them and bring them to life.  Curriculum is varied to include still-life, the figure, landscape, portraiture, cartooning, animation, clay sculpture and more.  Mondays from 5:15 to 6:15pm for 8 weeks beginning Jan 23rd and March 26th for $120 plus $15 supplies. 

Kids Drawing  Students ages 6 to 10 will create expressive drawings using art elements including line, shape, form, value, contour and perspective with Julie Weinberger, instructor.  Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:30 for 6 weeks beginning Feb 23rd and April 19th for  $95 plus $15 supplies.

Mudmuffins  Ages 5 to 9 will make coil, slab and pinch clay projects that focus on both decorative and functional designs.  The last class includes a party with treats eaten in the students’ creations.  Michaela Kuhn, instructor.  Thursdays from 4 to 5pm for 8 weeks beginning Jan 19th and March 15th for $150 plus $20 supplies  This class is held at our Clay and Cottage at 1123 Chuck Dawley Blvd. 

Kids Clay on the Wheel  Students ages 10 & up who have had some handbuilding experience will enjoy this class with Michaela Kuhn, instructor.  Learn to make thrown shapes on the pottery wheel that will turn into useful and decorative projects.  Thursdays from 5:15 to 6:30pm for 8 weeks beginning Jan 19th and March 15th for $155 plus $25 supplies. Watercolor & Aqueous Material   Students ages 8 & up will learn the basics of watercolor techniques with Julie Weinberger, instructor.  Explore different aqueous materials and mediums used in watercolor painting to create personal, one of a kind pieces. Mondays from 4:30 to 5:30pm for 8 weeks beginning Jan 23rd and March 26th for $120 plus $20 supplies.  This class is held at our Clay Cottage at 1123 Chuck Dawley Blvd.

Saturday Sculpting  This introduction to sculpture, instructed by Deborah Meyer, is for students ages 10 and up.  Students will begin to see the transformative act of molding a physical substance into form and structure, which provides invaluable training in understanding proportion, balance, rhythm and movement.  Projects will include clay, paper mache, wire and more!  Saturdays from 2 to 5pm for 4 weeks beginning Jan 14th, Feb 18th, March 24th, and May 5th for $120 plus $30 supplies. Homeschool Classes

Homeschool Art Class  Michaela Kuhn, instructor, designed this class for students ages 5 & up who want to experience a variety of media or for those who want to prepare a portfolio.  Stimulating, creative projects will include a wide variety of media including painting, woodworking, marbleizing, papermaking and more.  Individualized attention will accommodate all learning styles and experience levels.  Tuesdays from 9:30 to 10:30am for 4 weeks beginning Jan 10th, Feb 14th, March 20th,  and May 1st for $60 plus $20 supplies.  This class is held at our Clay Cottage at 1123 Chuck Dawley Blvd.

Homeschool Handbuilding  Students ages 5 & up will work closely with Michaela Kuhn to learn the entire process of making, glazing and firing individual projects that focus on both decorative and functional designs.  Students will experiment in creating handmade pots and vessels using several methods.  Tuesdays from 10:45 to 11:45am for 4 weeks beginning Jan 10th, Feb 14th, March 20th and May 1st for $75 plus $25 supplies.   This class is held at our Clay Cottage at 1123 Chuck Dawley Blvd.

Homeschool Clay at the Wheel  Students ages 10 & up will work closely with Michaela Kuhn to learn how to throw shapes on the wheel to create decorative and useful pieces.  Tuesdays from 12:15 to 1:30pm for 8 weeks beginning Jan 10th and March 20th for $155 plus $25 supplies.   This class is held at our Clay Cottage at 1123 Chuck Dawley Blvd.
